So you've just joined Race Marshals Victoria but what now? At Race Marshals Victoria we provide you with a mix of practical and online training to make sure you have the knowledge and skills to be a Flag Marshal at Motorcycle Road Racing events.
Practical Training
The most effective way of learning is attending a race meeting where you will be buddied with an experienced marshal. They will explain to you what a Race Marshal does and doesn't do, race flags and when and how they are used, how to use the radios to communicate with Race Tower officials and the general "in's and out's" of race marshalling.
Your Race Marshal buddy will provide guidance, supervise you as you learn and give you feedback to help you learn and improve you race marshalling skills. It might take a couple of supervised events before you have the confidence and skills to be able to flag a corner by yourself.
Learning comes with experience - the more events you volunteer at, the more skilled you become.
Online Training
We have a a dedicated online Race Marshals Victoria training website which has a range of courses, videos and quick reference guides to help you learn and stay updated on different components of being a Race Marshal. When you join the club you will receive a training user-id and password in your New Members information pack.
On our training site you will find modules on topics which complement your practical training
such as:
Before you are able to flag a corner by yourself you must have completed the online training
modules and quizzes. The quick reference guides can be downloaded and kept as a reference
on events days.
